Quilt Challenge

Every year GTPQG has a Challenge!  Last year, the 2012 Challenge theme was "3Bs".  Participants were given a cut of pre-selected fabric (evergreen batik) and instructions to make a wall hanging using Batiks, Buttons (3 min.), and another "B" in their design.  In November, all entries are gathered and hung in the library for "community judging."  Here are last year's quilts:

And the winners were:

This year's 2013 Challenge theme is "Bling It On!"  Susan is heading it up...

Participants will be asked to design a wall hanging with a pre-selected fabric (blue floral with silver metallic) and must include an additional 2 types of "bling" (ie. sequins, metallic thread, beading, glitter).  Sounds like fun, right?  Well, come join in...it IS fun!

Raffles

Did you know that our Vice President, Victoria, sells raffle tickets at the beginning and snack break of every guild meeting?  If so, are you buying ticket for a chance to win?  It's just $1.00/ticket and look at how happy this year's lucky winners were!

2 Winners in January!
6 Winners in February!
3 Winners in March!
It's like Publisher's Clearing House..."you never know, you may be next", but you'll never have a chance unless you purchase a ticket!

Sew & Tell - March

Often, we hear that some of our guild members feel embarrassed about "not being up to par" with other more experienced quilters in the group.  We LOVE to see everyone's work and we all want to be inspired by the color combinations and pattern choices and unique designs in our member's projects.  Please do not be shy about getting up in front of the guild and showing off your hard work...you deserve a pat on the back and a round of applause for any and all project completions!

We didn't have too many projects to show at this month's guild meeting, but here are some of those that were shared:
Carol's 9-Patch & Snowball
Debbie & Lisa's Sew Day Samplers
Angie & Mary's DCU Quilts
Debbie & Victoria's Baby Quilts
Christine's House Next Door Sampler
May's Desert Sky & Patriotic Quilts
Kathi's Pinwheel & Stars
Hope you enjoyed our little photo parade.  If you showed a quilt at March's Guild Meeting and it's not pictured here, it will probably show up in another blog post...be on the lookout, it's coming!

Veteran's Quilts

Another of the charities GTPQG supports are our local Wounded Warrior Rehabilitation Center and Veteran's Home.  Being this close to Fort Leonard Wood Army Base, really means we have plenty of work to do in this area!  And, Kathi, who heads up this project, is even willing to do the longarm quilting (just be sure to provide the top, back and batting)...now there's no excuses!

January Donations
February Donations
March Donations - Veteran's Quilt Challenge Month
Kathi will even take in knitted and crocheted blankets as there is a great need here!

Programs

It's been a great year so far with lots of fun demos scheduled!  Our Program Director has done a great job recruiting volunteers to demonstrate various techniques.

In January, June brought "Fabric Folding" to life right before our very eyes...

In February, Debbie gave us tons of tips on "Designing with Precuts"...

And this month, Ruth gave us all a few lessons on "Needle Turn Applique"...

Can you believe that blue quilt (bottom row, 3rd position) was her very first project????  WOW!

Upcoming Workshop: Bargello

There's a workshop coming up and Viola's giving a lesson on how to make a Bargello Table Runner!  Here's a couple of Bargello projects to get you inspired...

Viola's Bargello Quilt
Debbie's Bargello Placemats (last year's workshop)
Do these look like fun?  Does this technique interest you?  If so, come join us in our workshop on April 20th.  I'm really looking forward to this one!  Hope you are, too!

Genesis House

There are four main charities that GTPQG supports:  Habitat for Humanity (generally, one quilt/year needed), GLWACH (baby quilts), Veteran's Quilts, and Genesis House (local battered women and children's shelter).  Mary heads up this charity project for our guild.

January Donations
February Donations
March Donations
This month, Mary challenged guild members to make something to donate to Genesis House.  There are a variety of things needed including:  pillowcases, baby bibs, pot holders, hot pads, and cuddle quilts.  This is a great project for trying out a new pattern for small items...give it a try!
