2018

2018 is off with a bang!
With the several meetings behind us,
we already have a great start into the quilting year.
   New meeting place:
Faith Baptist Church
25475 Hwy 17
Waynesville, MO

The Friendship Tea Cup Quilt was our first workshop project of the year.
With May instructing, each participating member will make the required
number of teacup blocks and these blocks will then be exchanged toward
the end of the year.  Each block will have the makers name on it. When
the blocks are exchanged, pieced and quilted the ladies will have a quilt
with the names of their friends.
Check out the photos
During the January meeting Bonnie gave out the requirements
for the Challenge Quilt. Those members who want to be involved
in the challenge will soon be given the requirements.  They will
have most of the year to design, piece and quilt a wall hanging.
The quilts will then be hung and judged.

In the hour prior to the June guild meeting and all through the break, we had a bunch of ladies set up a "Quilter's Yard Sale!"  All items had to be good quality, new or gently used quilty items and man, oh, man, did we have a field day shopping!

New Challenge

Have we told you about our new challenge this year?  We've got a few going on...

1.  Challenge Quilt 2013 - "Bling It On!"  All entries must be wallhangings that use the given fabric and contain at least 2 other forms of "bling."  Due in November.

2.  Color Challenge - Each month a color is published in the newsletter and members are challenged to make an item using that color.  Easy!

...and the new challenge...

3.  "Use It Up!" Challenge - Use up those scraps to make a project featuring the announced element.  So far we've used 4-patches, pinwheels, 9-patches, and flying geese!

Charity Quilting in April

For the first few months of this year, each of our 3 charity coordinators took turns issuing a challenge to the guild for a specific goal to meet.  This month, members were asked to donate either a baby bib, hot pad, pillowcases, or cuddle quilt for a local women and children's shelter called the Genesis House.  Our members lived up to that challenge and many items were certainly donated this month!

Genesis House donations - April
And of course we didn't forget about our other charities...

3 quilts for the Veterans
6 quilts for the newborn babies
And, generously, this month, The Thread Peddler of Waynesville, MO, donated a bunch of pillowcase kits for members to sew up and bring back for donation to the Genesis House!  Thank you Thread Peddler!

Memorial Blocks

Recently, our guild suffered the great loss of one of our most generous and gifted quilters.  In honor of her, the ladies all got together to make a quilt for her son who is also a guild member (not to mention the youngest and only male)!

GTPQG makes memorial blocks quite often for the loss of any guild member's immediate family member.  We use a simple standard 8 1/2" 16-patch block pattern of squares and HSTs.  For the loss of a male family member, we make blue hearts on a muslin background; pink hearts on a white background for females.

It may be a lot of work sometimes, but in the end, most of the recipients appreciate the thought, time and effort that goes into each block gifted to them in their time of sorrow.

April Program

We invited the wonderful and talented ladies from The Fabric Store in Lebanon to come and set up shop during the April guild meeting.  They brought bolts and bolts of fabric for us to shop from as well as a few fun rulers, magazines and tools!

One of the shop ladies even gave us a demo on the 10 Degree Ruler and how to use it to make a tree skirt or table topper.  Too cute!
